About

The Campaign

The “Neonatal Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (NPICU) Awareness Campaign” was an initiative by Composer Maurizio Schembri in collaboration with Ms Sharon Deguara Cipriott – Midwife at the Parentcraft Unit, Mater Dei Hospital.

The aims of the Campaign were to create awareness amongst the general public about the invaluable work done by the very professional, caring and dedicated team at the NPICU at Mater Dei Hospital, to bring light upon the struggles and needs of babies in intensive care, the physical and emotional experiences of parents and families  whose babies  need special care and to give sufficient knowledge and courage to parents who will be in need of the NPICU services in the future.

The Campaign was officially launched by Ms Rachel Attard and Ms Sharon Deguara Cipirott on Monday 27th October 2014 on TVM programme TVPM, hosted by Mr Chrysander Agius.  The local media received the whole concept very well and it was gladly featured on a wide variety of television and radio programs on various stations.  In these features, doctors, midwives, nurses and parents from all walks of life shared their knowledge and personal experiences in regards to the NPICU.  The Malta Independent with thanks to its News Editor Ms Rachel Attard, who she herself is a mother who has experienced the NPICU, has willingly offered her support to this notion and had collaborated with a number of interviews for the Campaign which were featured on their web portal and newspaper.

The point of reference of the NPICU Awareness Campaign was the highly acclaimed Facebook Page which bares the same name.  It played an important role in reaching out and towards the success of this Campaign through which articles, information, quotes and any other related interesting and useful material to the subject were posted on a daily basis.   The posts had regular feedback, support and contributions from the public in general and with special thanks to Ms Elizabeth Cassar who at a later stage has teamed up with Maurizio and Sharon to keep the material running smoothly as matters to coordinate this official closing concert had intensified.

The NPICU Awareness Campaign along with the fundraising concert were both very heartily embraced by H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta,  thus giving her Distinguished Patronage for “The Broken Heart – A Musical Evening” as The Official Closing Concert of the NPICU Awareness Campaign.

The Official Closing Concert of the Neonatal Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (NPICU) Awareness Campaign under the Distinguished Patronage of H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, was the initial idea that gave birth this whole concept.  With the aspiration of organizing a fundraising concert, discussions between Maurizio and Sharon has led to the collaboration of the NPICU Awareness Campaign and its Official Closing Concert.   A concert which consisted of a collection of instrumental and vocal works composed by composer Maurizio Schembri between the year 2009 and 2014, a five year journey of study, inspiration, reflection, expression and evolution.

Qalb it-Tfal

Qalb it-Tfal was set up with the aim of helping the Neonatal Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (NPICU) by Mr. Roderick Cachia and his wife Liliana as an appreciation to the impeccable dedication of the staff at the NPICU which was witnessed by themselves throughout their own experience.

The material for this concert, with his years of studies, experimentation, efforts, and artistic expression including its organization and coordination were the composer’s own contribution to raise funds for Qalb it-Tfal.

The Concert,  honoured by the presence of H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca the President of Malta was very well attended and much appreciated by the audience.  The sum of donations raised at the end of the concert had reached the beautiful amount of €900.
